BACKGROUND

Jane Borthwick is an experienced art advisor focused on maximizing the value of fine art and special collections for private clients, fiduciaries, and beneficiaries. As the managing director of an award-winning fine art advisory firm for wealthy clients, She handled significant sales and providing strategic advice. Jane founded Borthwick Art Advisory to provide excellent customer service, transparent communication, and superior results.

By evaluating the art assets and relevant markets and understanding a client’s objectives, Jane makes recommendations and manages strategies to meet those objectives. She is experienced in many collecting fields and collaborates with specialist appraisers in unique collecting fields as needed.  On behalf of clients, Jane has successfully managed exceptional sales results at Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Phillips, Bonhams and specialty and niche auction houses internationally.

Projects have included the safe of artwork by Alexander Calder, Jean Miro, Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Norman Rockwell, Louise Bourgeois, Fairfield Porter, Christo, Joan Mitchell, Frank Stell, Bill Traylor and Andy Warhol.

Jane is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School. She is a past Board President of ArtTable, the national association of professional women in the visual arts, and was awarded its Distinguished Leadership Award in 2022.  Jane has an international background and first began attending art auctions at the Dorotheum auction house in Vienna as a high school student.   

Jane speaks on estate planning related to art and best collection management practices. She has been quoted in The New York Times, Private Asset Management, New York Magazine and recently published an article in the Harvard Magazine
